On the morning of March 29, Icelandic Ambassador to China THORIR IBSEN and his delegation visited our university。Liu Zongming, President of Jinan University, Zha Yuxi, Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee and Zhang Yong, Vice President of Jinan University attended the meeting. Tian Xianglian, director of the Council of Jinan University and chairman of Beijing Huaxun International Passenger Transport Service Co., LTD., attended the meeting. Relevant officials of the Office of Social Sciences, the Office of International Cooperation and Exchange and the Iceland Research Center participated in the activity。
Liu Zongming welcomed the delegation and briefly introduced the University of Jinan and the Iceland Research Center. He thanked the Embassy of Iceland for its support and assistance to the University of Jinan and the Iceland Research Center, and awarded Ambassador Ibre the letter of appointment as an honorary professor of the University of Jinan。He hoped that Mr. Ambassador and the Embassy of Iceland in China would continue to support Jinan University and promote practical results in personnel training, scientific research and China-Iceland cooperation。
In the afternoon, at the invitation of the Iceland Research Center of our University, Ambassador Ibray gave a report entitled "Iceland's Foreign Policy and China-Iceland Bilateral Relations" in the first lecture hall. More than 300 teachers and students from the School of Literature, the School of Foreign Languages, the School of Political Science and Law, the School of Marxism and the Center of Iceland Studies attended the report。Ambassador Ebray introduced the history and development of Iceland, Iceland's foreign policy, the history of friendly exchanges between China and Iceland, and expressed the wish to further develop the friendly relations between the two countries。After the report, the teachers and students present actively exchanged views with the Ambassador on study abroad in Iceland, tourism in Iceland, historical development of Iceland, and cultural exchanges between China and Iceland。
Ibray holds a Bachelor's degree in Political Science from the University of Iceland and a Master's degree in International Relations from the graduate program in Political Science at York University, Canada。1984-1990 Taught political science and economics at the University of Canada in France and the University of York, and was a producer at the Icelandic Broadcasting Corporation in 1991。Since 1992, he has worked in the Icelandic Ministry of Environment and the Icelandic Ministry of Foreign Affairs。He was appointed Ambassador in March 2008,Ambassador for Climate change in Iceland,Chief negotiator;Ambassador of Iceland to France,Ambassador to Italy, Spain, Andorra, Permanent Representative of Iceland to the OECD, Permanent Representative of Iceland to UNESCO and Permanent Representative of Iceland to the Council of Europe (Permanent to France);Ambassador of Iceland to the European Union and Belgium,Luxembourg and the Netherlands,Ambassadors of Switzerland and SAN Marino (Permanent to Belgium);Ambassador of Iceland to India,Ambassador to Bangladesh, Maldives, Mauritius, Nepal, South Africa and Sri Lanka (Permanent to India);Ambassador of the Department of Bilateral and Regional Affairs of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Iceland, Chief negotiator for future relations with the United Kingdom, representative of Iceland to the Committee of the Financial Mechanism for the Allocation of Funds in the European Economic Area, Negotiator for Fisheries, and Ambassadors of Iceland to the Czech Republic, Hungary and Slovakia。He was appointed Ambassador of Iceland to China in August 2021。
